Physiatry is the medical specialty of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Physiatrists (fizz-eye’-uh-trists or fizz-ee-a’-trists) are specialists in diagnosing and treating acute and chronic pain conditions of the musculoskeletal system, even when standard diagnostic tests do not reveal the source of the problem. The Physiatrist offers a comprehensive, non-surgical approach to pain and injury. They direct the treatment plan and coordinate care with physical therapists and other health care professionals. The result is an individually designed treatment plan tailored to the patient’s specific condition.
